The importance of Steering & Suspension

Steering and Suspension is probably the second most neglected parts of any motor vehicle. Poorly maintained steering and suspension can cause erratic performance and handling, vibration and abnormal tyre wear.

Some basic components of a vehicles steering are the steering box (in most early model vehicles), rack & pinion (in most late model vehicles), tie-rod ends and ball joints.

Basic suspension components consist of control arms (also known as wishbones), control arm bushes, coil springs, leaf springs, eyelet and shackle bushes; and shock absorbers (shockies). The job of a shockie is reduce the amount of rebound (bounce) in the spring.

Tyre wear is usually the first sign that there may a problem with your vehicles steering, suspension or wheel alignment. If you suspect a problem, you should have it checked by a specialist.

Air bags helper kits are also great addition to any 4WD or commercial vehicle where better load carrying is required without compromising vehicle ride. Click on the Aussie Air Suspension link on the right.

We also specialise in Chrysler Valiant suspension, wheel alignments and chassis rail repairs from 1962 to 1981. (As a Chrysler Valiant enthusiust, I've owned a number of these vehicles over the years so I'm very familiar with them. Tim Corby, Proprietor)
